Start in seconds, keep your data: a whiteboard that respects you

The Atomic Lab start page, with Start drawing and Sign up free buttons and board templates

Plenty of free tools pay for themselves in ways you don’t see: your attention, your data, or a sign-up wall between you and the thing you came to do. We’d rather be straightforward about how Atomic Lab works.

Start drawing before you sign up

On the Atomic Lab start page, Start drawing takes you straight to a board. There’s no account to create and no form to fill in.

That board is kept in your browser, and nothing on it is sent to us. When you want to keep it safe, use it on another computer, or share it, sign up free. Atomic Lab then offers to move the boards from your browser into your account.

(One limitation: boards kept in your browser can’t hold images, because images are stored on our servers. Everything else works.)

Free for individuals, fair for teams

Free is for working on your own. You get your own workspace, as many boards as you like, and every tool, from cards and Kanban columns to templates, version history, export and publishing to the web. People you add to a Free workspace can view its boards; only you edit.

Team is for working together. Everyone in the workspace can edit, and the price follows the number of members, billed monthly or yearly. Guests, people you add to just the boards they need, are always free.

When you first invite someone to edit with you, your workspace gets a 14-day Team trial, without needing a card. And if a Team plan ends, its boards become read-only: nothing is deleted, everyone can still open and export them, and you can subscribe again or move back to Free.

No tracking cookies, no adverts

Atomic Lab uses one cookie, to keep you signed in, and there are no adverts.

To understand how people find us, we count page views ourselves, without cookies and without third-party analytics. Visitors are counted using a code that changes every day, so nobody can be followed from one day to the next, and your IP address isn’t stored. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, your visits aren’t counted at all.

Your data is yours

  • Download everything. From your account page you can download a zip of your account details and every board you’ve created, with its images. Each board can be imported again.
  • Delete your account yourself. No emails to support, no waiting. Your account page tells you exactly what will happen first.
  • Deleted boards get a second chance. A deleted board waits in your workspace’s trash for 30 days, and can be restored with its history.

Honest housekeeping

We don’t keep data nobody needs. If a Free workspace goes unused for a year, it’s deleted, but not before its members are emailed 30 days and 7 days ahead. Signing in, or one click on the button in the email, keeps it. Workspaces on a paid plan are never deleted this way.

All of this is spelled out in our privacy policy and terms, in plain English.
